Just because

Hey all,

I thought it time to update my xanga again. I really don't have all that much to report. Classes are going fine. Between MLK day, the ice on Friday, and the random cancellation on Monday, I just had a 5 day weekend. Then Micro lab was cancelled and my philosophy prof. never showed up yesterday, so things have been pretty light. Today power went out on campus, and I almost got out of Micro. My teacher decided to wait it out though, and we still had class, with 30 minutes delay. Boo. That's all I have to say about that. Tomorrow I have my Med 120 class at 1, but that's it. I'm mostly done for the week. I'm so ready for a break, lol.

Well, until next time,

Chris

Captain's Log

Hey all,

Well, it appears that my premonition regarding my journal may have been correct. I've been writing in it almost every day since I got it for Christmas, and I have been somewhat *cough cough* neglecting xanga. At any rate, lets see, what's going on in my life....

Academics first I suppose. Last semester's grades are up, and it went well. This semester I'm taking Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Philosophy, 3rd semester Spanish, and my Docent rotation/lecture. Adds up to about 20 hrs. Things aren't very hectic yet, but I expect things will pick up as the semester progresses, and really take off once I start my research. Until then I can relax. Lately I've been hanging out with my friends Cory, Danny, and Sagar from my Med. program a lot, and we played some racquetball and basket ball today. They're good guys. Tonight I watched some movies and got pizza with Victoria, Brandon, Jo, and Jenn, known to several of you as my "conservatory friends." We had a lot of fun. The roads look like they will probably be pretty bad tomorrow, so reluctantly I won't be attending church. It's just not safe to take to roads out to Independence. I was talking to my mom on her cell earlier today. The power is out, and there is a lot of ice out there. Almost every tree in our neighborhood has been split by the ice. I think they got around 2 inches or so, and are supposed to receive more tomorrow! Well, it's late, and I need to get some sleep

Until my boredom and habits cause me to update again,

Chris

A Gamer's Temptation

Hey all,

So, get this. This afternoon I went over to Best Buy to get some last shopping in before Christmas, and lo and behold, what should I find in the gaming department? PS3s, and lots of them. They had gotten a shipment in this morning, and no one seemed to have known about it since some were still left. Pristine, retail priced PS3s, discovered by complete accident, even Indiana Jones's mouth would have watered. My newly acquired credit card began calling to me, in melodious harmony with the siren song of the PS3. It was pure bliss, but then "reason" had to get involved. As much as it pained me to admit, there are really no good games out for the PS3 that I can't already get for my XBox 360. There's the Blu-ray capability, but I don't have a television that would really take advantage of its added clarity, and in the end, I couldn't justify making a purchase of $600 plus games and extra controllers unless I was really excited about it or psyched for some amazing game exclusive to PS3. I looked at what's coming out down the road, and there are some interesting games coming out around March or so, but if I could find a PS3 3 days before Christmas eve without camping out in 20 degree weather like I did for my XBox 360, I'll still be able to get one around St. Pat's without much trouble if I want to go that way.

Conclusion 1: PS3 is shiny, powerful, and promising, but without great games I see no reason to pay so much for one

Conclusion 2: I must be growing up if I can walk away from a shiny new game system, I'm so proud of my self.

That's all for now, later

-Chris

We return triumphant!

Hey all,

Well, caroling went pretty well tonight. We hit one of the nursing homes in town and went by the homes of a couple of great older folks we know from church. I'm not sure if all the songs started on what constitutes an actual "note" on our english scale, but we were close enough, and I don't think the old ladies really minded it, lol.

Lately I've found my self with a tremendous amount of free time. I know, newsflash, it is break after all-but usually I've got a lot to do. I'm either working or fixing up the house or doing yardwork or working on some pet project or something, but I've got no such diversion at the moment. I can't even think of any video games I want to play or something of that effect. Now, the other side of this is that I have no excuse to avoid refreshing my Spanish (haven't spoken a decent sentence in six months) and my chemistry (took Chem II way back in second semester junior year) in preparation for Organic Chem and Spanish 212 or whatever it is that I need to fulfill my undergrad requirements. However, I would rather find a more enjoyable alternative. I'm kicking around the idea of going ice-skating with one of my old friends from the Academy if our schedules match up. My older sister is doing her OB/GYN residency in D.C., and is flying in on the 26th (new resident = scut monkey => works Christmas) and my family is probably going to drive to Memphis to visit grandmother for most of next week.

Side note, the pain in my foot is finally starting to subside. For those of you who don't know, I somehow strained one of the tendons in my transverse arch a couple days ago (I'm self-diagnosing of course), and it has ached like crazy if I stepped on it wrong or used it for too long. It's been more of an inconvenience than anything, definitely not bad enough for me to haul my keaster to the doctor, but I'll be happy to see it go nonetheless.

Well, that about does it. I've killed a sufficient amount of time and my palpebrae are prolasping. I'll probably journal again before the year is out, but who knows as erratically as I update. I've asked my parents for a nice leather bound journal for Christmas, and if I take to it, it might fulfill that need to set my life in writing I occasionally fulfill in xanga! Nah...that wont happen. I like to complain and rant every once in a while, and what better outlet could I have for that?

Until next time,

-Chris
